John 6:5-8 NMV
[5] When Yeshua [God is Salvation] then lifted up [his] eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he says unto Philip [friend of horses], Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? [6] And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do. [7] Philip [friend of horses] answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little. [8] One of his disciples, Andrew [of a man], Shim’on [he has heard] Kefa [pebble]’s brother, says unto him,
Jesus asked Philip a rhetorical question knowing already how the scene would end. However, it was Andrew whose name means of a man that came up with what seems according to human standards) to be a stupid answer to a rhetorical question. Of what use is a young boy's lunch in feeding 5000 hungry men. However, I believe it was the Holy Spirit who opened Andrew's eyes to the boy when he was fiddling with his lunch and it was the same Holy Spirit that spoke through Andrew to recommend the boy's lunch to Jesus. For if its not the Holy Spirit, then it could be that Andrew himself was hungry and pondering on the opportunity to have a piece of the boys lunch.
This particular passage polishes our mind giving assurance that what you term as little is more than enough for God to showcase His Omnipotence. Cases can be drawn from the two widows (widow of Zarephat (I Kings 17v8-16) and the widow whose late husband owed a sizable amount of money big enough to almost result in trafficking his sons into a lifetime of slavery and child labour (II Kings 4v1-17l. Albeit, as demonstrated by Yeshua, our little resources will overflow when done with a thankful heart, meaning disregard what the outward appearance says and give thanks to God and He will multiply what initially wasn't enough to overflow. Secondly, we need the support of people around you to accomplish the task of multiplicity. Thirdly, we must act out in total obedience to every commands given.
If the verse 6 to 8 of John 6 were to be rephrased, I think it would look something like this, God will not do for us what He has enabled us to do with Him. For looking at the fifth verse, it mentioned that Jesus first went to the friend of horses (Philip), but it was of a man (Andrew) that responded with the answer that fulfilled the human side of the deal. Which shows that God requires us humans to fulfill His will on earth, or in our lives or in the lives of others. However, this relationship between God and man must not be trivialized, neither should we disregard the intuition given by the Holy Spirit.
Something that came to my mind is that, how come it's only Peter and his brother (Andrew) that responded correctly to the deep questions Jesus posed to His disciples (Matt 16v15-17)? Think about it, when Jesus asked His disciples who men say He was (Matt 16v13-17), and when Yeshua asked the disciples in John 6v67-69 asked if the disciples would also dessert Him, it was the same Peter that gave the right answer. You know it is a theological fact that 2 or 3 occurrences depicts that the matter is really significant (Deut 19v5, Matt 18v16, II Cor 13v1). So therefore, the responses from this family shows that there is more to Peter and Andrew's family than meets the eye. Which got me to explore further.
After a quick search eliminating factors such as the significance of the location, pressures and other factors, I discovered the difference and the secret of their unequivocal intelligence could actually be their family name. Embedded in the family name of Simon Peter and his brother Andrew (both surnamed Bar (son of) Jonah), is a secret that explains the reason for their knowledge. Jonah meaning 'Dove'. In the Christian world, we know a dove is a symbolic representation of the Holy Spirit. For on the day Jesus was baptized in water, a Dove was noted to have descended on Him announcing His mission and verifying His authority as the Son of God Theos (Matt 3v13–17; Luke 3v21–22; John 1v32–34).
To explore a little further, He (Yeshua Hamashiach) first went to Philip which means friends of horses to prove a point to humans then and now. From our knowledge of the Bible, we know horses are symbolic of physical abilities or strength, for the Bible says that ‘some trust in chariots and some in horses but we will trust in the name of the Lord’ (Psalms 20v7-8). In this verse, we can see the reason why it was Philip that Yeshua directed the question to but it was Andrew that provided a valid answer. Because codified in this biblical reference is a template we require to circumvent every and any issue during our sojourn on earth. This template is that we should be led and reliant on the Holy Spirit. For only those who are led by the Spirit are the children of God (Rom 8v14), and vain is the help of men (Psalms 60v11). Another example is the occurrence of Elijah and Ahab, which explains what happens when the hand of God is upon someone (I Kings 18v46). Which also correlates with the transposition of the humanistic tendency in Jacob's name (he who holds on to the heel of man) to Israel (he who holds on to the heel of God). From this we can see God replacing the strength and reliance on man with His infinite strength. For by strength (human) can no man prevail (I Sam 2v9).
If John 6v6 is true which I know it is, then Jesus knew that Philip would only provide a humanistic response and He also knew that the right answer would come from someone led by the Holy Spirit (as it normally does). This sums up this post that if lasting, peaceful and impactful solution is what we truly desire, the leadership of the Holy Spirit is paramount to accomplish that. Jesus knew what to do because He was led and one (united) with the Holy Spirit. Therefore, the Holy Spirit is the determining factor of a life that truly glorifies God and fulfills destinies. May the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all (II Cor 13v14).
Shalom aleichem brothers and sisters.
