John 4:28-29 NMV
[28] The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and says to the men, [29] Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Moshiach [Messiah]?
I apologize for not posting any blogs for the past few weeks. I have been really pressed between space, time and matter. But today, I had to break the cycle and share something the Holy Spirit just revealed to me. This is based on the interaction between Jesus and the Samurai woman (sorry Samaritan *laughs*). Like most of us, we know the genesis and revelation of this interaction. While re-reading this story, on getting to the 28th verse, being a person that's being gifted with the grace to want to find what has been elusive to my knowledge, the first action of the woman stood out to me. I must say it was not due to any of my cerebral abilities. This glorious verse mentioned that the woman left her watermelon (sorry waterpot). Knowing how cryptic this is, I went online to search the true meaning of waterpot.
'wo'-ter-pot (hudria; compare hudor, "water"): An earthen vessel, or jar, for carrying or holding water (in the Septuagint for kadh, "jar," or "pitcher"). It was usually carried by women upon the head, or upon the shoulder (John 4:28). The water pot is a symbol of self righteousness. 1. To attempt to find satisfaction through our own efforts.(copied from online). Strong's concordance (g5201) further says 'Receptacle for family supply.' Meaning to trust in one's ability, strength or wisdom in an act or attempt to provide and protect oneself or others.
The Bible mentioned 3 things that this woman did. These are :
1.She left the waterpot
2.She went into the city (not to go gossip or mock this man that called Himself the Messiah, but
3.To say, come and see
The point of focus today is on the first point. She left her waterpot! Don't forget that to get satisfaction from the content of her waterpot was the reason why she left the comfort of her house in the first place. Her dialogue with the Messiah further cements this claim (see John 4v15). But see, she had to forget about her personal objective to seek the salvation of her people.
To evangelize or follow Jesus, you must do as this Samaritan woman did, leave your water pot behind and go do the will of God the Father. If the scripture is true and alive, then truly by strength can no man prevail, for vain is the strength of men. This is the exact thing the woman did. She left behind the self-imposed hindrance that could hinder her accomplishing her commitment to follow and evangelize the Messiah. As you know that nobody told her to leave her pot behind, not even Jesus. In the twinkle of an eye she knew she needed speed, after having set her eyes on the Messiah, to go evangelize in her community. Evangelism is a personal commitment, not for any earthly reward, but for a reward of an eternal nature. She left her water pot at the feet of the Master, as her feet was strengthened like that of Elijah when he out ran Ahab's chariot.
So you want to serve God the Father? Like Jesus said to the Samaritan lady, anyone who wants to serve God the Father must serve Him in His real nature and habitat. God is a Spirit and only by being in Spirit coupled with a heart filled with total tautology can we serve Him. Spirits don't need to drink water, hence they don't have to bothered or burdened by such needs. The meat of real spirits are to do the will of God the Father. You see why the Samaritan woman had to leave self-righteousness behind, you see why she had to leave her heartbreaks behind to go minister to those who might have broken her heart 5 times. She had to leave behind her disgust or dislike for the Jews to go tell others about how she was delivered from racism, tribalism and stereotype. She recognized she was truly a spirit and must be about the Father's business while it was still day (the sixth hour is at noon).
Brethren, what's that extra baggage you are carrying that's impeding your ability to serve God in your sixth hour? Like the woman at the well, you know exactly what it is, because it is not flesh and blood that will or has revealed this to you safe the Spirit of God Himself. Will you keep carrying your luggage, or would you put them at the feet of God the Son, in exchange for a lighter burden and an easy yoke? This opportunity to follow and witness for the Messiah might be a once in a lightyear opportunity. Would you let it pass you bye? The onus is yours.
Shalom aleichem brothers and sisters.
